We recently had the fun and challenging assignment of crashing cars for Ford Parts. They needed to have a very specific type of crash, and the only way to achieve this was through CGI. Utilizing sculpting techniques and retopology, we were able to manipulate the data into the desired impact. Putting to good use the years of car photography, CGI and retouching experience, we were able to create a dramatic and photorealistic set of images.
Step 1: We had to build a CG model that looked like it had just been crashed. This involved manipulating the data to bend and crack realistically.
Step 2: We had to distress the paint and materials.
A few more from the series.
